Abstract:Ferroptosis, officially named as an iron-dependent programmed cell death pattern in 2012,is characterized by the accumulation of lipid peroxidation and the inactivation of antioxidant defense system, which is fundamentally different from traditional cell death patterns such as apoptosis and necrosis. As one of the most common malignancies of the female reproductive system worldwide, cervical cancer accounts for over 661 000 new cases each year.Patients with intermediate and advanced-stage disease face severe challenges including tumor recurrence, drug resistance, and poor prognosis.Recent studies have established that dysregulated ferroptosis plays a critical role in the development and progression of cervical cancer.Elucidating the related molecular mechanisms offers important targets for novel therapeutic strategies. This article systematically reviews the core regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis, examines its specific regulatory mechanisms in cervical cancer, and summarizes recent advances, current challenges, and future directions in targeting ferroptosis for cervical cancer treatment. The aim is to provide new insights and a theoretical foundation for the clinical treatment of cervical cancer.
