Abstract:Respiratory syncytial virus(RSV)is a leading pathogen causing lower respiratory tract infections in infants, young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. It is primarily transmitted through droplets, contact with contaminated surfaces,or direct contact with secretions from infected persons.Currently, modern medicine offers no specific antiviral drugs for RSV,and management mainly relies on supportive care.Consequently, the active components of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)extracts have emerged as a research hotspot for RSV treatment, with significant progress being achieved.Recent studies have found that extracts from Gardeniae Fructus,Andrographis paniculata,Artemisia annua, and Lonicera japonica can exert therapeutic effects against RSV through mechanisms such as direct viral inhibition, immune response regulation, and alleviation of oxidative damage, which greatly contributes to the clinical management of this disease. This article reviews the research progress on the efficacy and mechanisms of action of TCM extracts in treating RSV.
