Abstract:Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and risk factors of atrial fibrillation(AF)in elderly residents of Xi'an city. Methods A cluster sampling survey was conducted with communities as units, involving 3,024 elderly residents.Data on demographic characteristics, medical history, and related information were collected. The occurrence of atrial fibrillation was confirmed through physical examinations.Participants were divided into an AF group and a non-AF group based on the presence of AF.A logistic regression model was used to analyze independent risk factors for AF in elderly residents. Results Among 3 024 elderly residents,67(2.22%)were diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and included in the AF group, while 2 957(97.78%)were included in the non-AF group.Statistically significant differences were observed between the AF group and the non-AF group in terms of age, smoking history, drinking history, hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and renal insufficiency(P<0.05).Age 70-80 years(OR=3.158,95%CI:2.297-4.342),smoking history(OR=1.769,95%CI:1.032-3.031),hypertension(OR=1.919,95%CI:1.153-3.193),coronary heart disease(OR=1.820,95%CI:1.026-3.229),and renal insufficiency(OR=3.162,95%CI:1.254-7.971)were identified as independent risk factors for atrial fibrillation in elderly residents(all P<0.05).Conclusion Elderly residents with atrial fibrillation in Xi'an city are mainly characterized by being 70-80 years old, having a smoking history, and comorbidities such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, and renal insufficiency. It is recommended to strengthen lifestyle interventions and the management of underlying diseases in elderly residents to prevent disease progression and reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation.
