Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of red light therapy combined with Meng's external fixator on postoperative limb swelling and inflammatory factors in patients with tibiofibular fractures. Methods A total of 206 patients with tibiofibular fractures admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were prospectively selected from March 2024 to March 2025.They were divided into a control group(103 cases)and a combined group(103 cases)according to a random number table. The control group received Meng's external fixator treatment, while the combined group received red light therapy combined with Meng's external fixator.Clinical efficacy, degree of limb swelling, levels of inflammatory response factors(interleukin-6,C-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor-α),pain and functional recovery(visual analogue scale,Lysholm knee score),and complications were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate was higher in the combined group than in the control group(96.12%vs 88.35%,P<0.05).The degree of limb swelling on postoperative days 7 and 14 was lower than that before surgery in both groups, and significantly lower in the combined group than in the control group(P<0.05).On postoperative day 14,the levels of interleukin-6,C-reactive,and tumor necrosis factor-α were lower than those before surgery in both groups, and lower in the combined group than in the control group(P<0.05).On postoperative day 14,the visual analogue scale scores were lower than those before surgery in both groups, and lower in the combined group than in the control group(P<0.05);the Lysholm knee scores were higher than those before surgery in both groups, and higher in the combined group than in the control group(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups(4.85%vs 7.77%,P>0.05).Conclusion Red light therapy combined with Meng's external fixator can effectively improve limb swelling, reduce inflammatory response, alleviate pain, promote functional recovery, and demonstrates good safety in patients with tibiofibular fractures.
