Analysis of the Effect of Elastic Gauze Packing Combined with Cross-Compression Bandaging with Elastic Bandages on the Anterior Neck for Lymphatic Leakage Following Thyroid Surgery

Abstract：Objective To explore the safety and feasibility of elastic gauze packing combined with elastic bandage cross-compression bandaging on the anterior neck for the treating of lymphatic leakage after thyroid surgery.Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 51 patients who developed lymphatic leakage after radical thyroidectomy with cen-tral/lateral lymph node dissection at the General Surgery Department of Chinese PLA General Hospital between January 2022 and October 2024.Patients were divided into a traditional group(27 cases;routine intraoperative drainage tube placement,postoperative elastic bandage fixation with ordinary gauze packing on bilateral anterior chest)and an improvement group(24 cases;elastic gauze packing+anterior neck cross-compression bandaging with elastic bandage,replacing ordinary gauze and traditional fixation).Postoperative drainage volume,patient comfort,extubation time,hospital stay,and quality of life(physical functioning,bodily pain,general health,vitality,role emotional,mental health)were compared between groups.Results The improved group showed significantly lower postoperative drainage volume,extubation time,and hospital stay compared to the traditional group(P<0.05).Postoperative comfort and all quality-of-life domains(physical functioning,bodily pain,general health,vitality,role emotional,mental health)were significantly better in the improved group(P<0.05).Conclusion Elastic gauze packing combined with anterior neck cross-compression bandaging using elastic bandages is highly effective and com-fortable for patients with postoperative lymphatic leakage infection after thyroid cancer surgery,demonstrating strong potential for clinical application and promotion.
