Abstract:Objective To explore the research hotspots and development trends in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)ophthalmology in China over the past 30 years. Methods A visual analysis was conducted using CiteSpace 6.3.R1 software on academic journal articles related to TCM ophthalmology published between January 1,1995 and January 6,2025,retrieved from the CNKI,Wanfang, and VIP databases.Knowledge maps of authors, institutions, and keywords were gen-erated,along with collaboration network analyses of authors and institutions, keyword co-occurrence,and emergence analysis. Results Scholars including Wei Qiping,Kang Zefeng,Zhou Jian,Xie Like,Liu Guanghui, and Zhuang Zengyuan exhibited high activity in both publications and collaborations.Institutions such as the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences,Bei-jing University of Chinese Medicine, and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with their affiliated organi-zations,demonstrated extensive collaborative networks.Eight major clusters in TCM ophthalmology were identified, categorized into six research directions:fundamental theories and doctrines, disease diagnosis methods and syndrome differentiation sys-tems,investigation of specific diseases or pathological conditions, therapeutic approaches and formulas, inheritance of renowned physicians'experiences and schools, and education, training, and management. The three most frequently occurring keywords in the co-occurrence analysis were TCM ophthalmology, ophthalmology, and dry eye(syndrome). In the keyword emergence analy-sis,the most prominent and cutting-edge keyword was dry eye(syndrome). Conclusions Currently, the field of TCM ophthal-mology is developing rapidly, with frequent collaborations among authors and institutions,as well as stable research teams. The key research focuses in TCM ophthalmology include fundamental theories and doctrines, disease diagnosis methods and syn-drome differentiation systems, investigation of specific diseases or pathological conditions, therapeutic approaches and formulas, inheritance of renowned physicians'experiences and schools, and education, training, and management.Dry eye syndrome is emerging as a future research trend in TCM ophthalmology.
