Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between sleep quality and the risk of acute ischemic stroke(AIS)in elderly patients with chronic diseases. Methods A total of 186 elderly patients with chronic diseases from September 2022 to June 2024 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University were selected as the research subjects.General information, lifestyle, and disease history of the patients were collected.Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)and polysomnography. The incidence of AIS in patients was followed up.Logistic regression analysis was conducted to analyze the correlation between sleep quality and AIS in elderly patients with chronic diseases. Results Among the 186 patients,124 had a PSQI greater than 7,indicating sleep quality issues. There were 63 cases of AIS,and the incidence rate was 33.87%.There were significant differences in the age, gender, smoking history, physical exercise status, body mass index(BMI),total cholesterol(TC),combined sleep disorders, nighttime minimum oxygen saturation, and apnea hypopnea index(AHI)between groups(P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, gender, smoking history, physical exercise status,BMI,combined sleep disorders, nighttime minimum oxygen saturation and AHI were independent risk factors for AIS(P<0.05).Pearson correlation showed that the total PSQI was negatively correlated with the physical exercise status and nighttime minimum oxygen saturation, but positively correlated with age and gender(P<0.05).Conclusion The sleep quality of elderly patients with chronic diseases is closely related to the risk of AIS.It is necessary to pay attention to and improve the sleep quality of elderly patients with chronic diseases. At the same time, targeted measures should be taken to control unhealthy lifestyles such as smoking and lack of exercise, actively treat sleep disorders, and control BMI,thus reducing the risk of AIS.
