Abstract:Objective To explore the expression of mesothelin(MSLN)and tyrosine kinase receptor 2(ERBB2)in lung cancer tissues and their relationships with pathological characteristics and prognosis of patients. Methods A total of 115 lung cancer cases treated at Shaanxi Tongchuan Mining Bureau Central Hospital from June 2019 to June 2020.Surgically resected lung cancer tissues and adjacent tissues were collected in the lung cancer tissue group(n=115)and adjacent tissue group(n=115).Immunohistochemistry was used to detect MSLN and ERBB2 expression.Relationships between MSLN and ERBB2 expression levels and clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed using the x2 test, and prognostic risk factors were explored by multivariate Cox regression analysis. Results The positive expression rates of MSLN(71.31%vs 28.69%)and ERBB2(73.92%vs 26.08%)in the lung cancer tissue group were significantly higher than those in the adjacent tissue group(P<0.05).Positive expression rates of MSLN(87.81%vs 30.31%,82.50%vs 45.72%,84.42%vs 44.74%,93.33%vs 30.00%)and ERBB2(84.15%vs 48.49%,81.25%vs 57.15%,81.82%vs 57.90%,100.00%vs 25.00%)were higher in patients with smoking,moderate-low differentiation, lymph node metastasis, and TNM stage Ⅲ-Ⅳcompared to those without these factors(P<0.05).Three-year overall survival rates were higher for patients without smoking(90.90%vs 54.87%),with high differentiation(91.42%vs 53.75%),no lymph node metastasis(90.90%vs 38.46%),TNM stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ(75.00%vs 33.33%),MSLN-negative(96.96%vs 52.43%),and ERBB2-negative(93.33%vs 55.29%)compared to patients with smoking,moderate-low differentiation, lymph node metastasis,TNM stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ,MSLN-positive,and ERBB2-positive(P<0.05).Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed smoking(HR=3.125,95%CI:2.236-5.897),MSLN-positive(HR=2.204,95%CI:1.146-4.530),and ERBB2-positive(HR=2.687,95%CI:1.143-5.254)were risk factors for poor prognosis(P<0.05).Conclusion MSLN and ERBB2 are highly expressed in lung cancer tissues, both are risk factors for prognosis of lung cancer patients. They may serve as effective biomarkers for evaluating pathological characteristics and prognosis in lung cancer.
