Abstract:Objective To investigate the risk factors for the occurrence and frequency of benign convulsions associated with mild gastroenteritis(CWG).Methods The clinical data of 204 children with mild gastroenteritis who were hospitalized in the First People's Hospital of Wuhu from March 2019 to March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.Children were divided into convulsion group(n=77)and control group(n=27)based on the occurrence of convulsions, and into convulsion-frequent group(n=38)and convulsion-single group(n=39)according to seizure frequency. The clinical data of children were compared. The risk factors of occurrence and the frequency of convulsions were determined by logistic regression analysis. Results The age, blood sodium,Vesikari scores, proportion of rotavirus(RV)infection and undetectable pathogens in the convulsion group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05),and the proportion of norovirus(NV)infection was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that younger age,NV infection, low blood sodium on admission and low Vesikari score were independent risk factors for CWG(OR was 1.595,6.290,3.777,and 3.732,respectively;P<0.05).The age of children in the convulsion-frequent group was significantly lower than that in the convulsion-single group(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis suggested younger age was an independent risk factor for the frequency of convulsions(OR=1.113,P<0.05).Conclusion Age is an independent risk factor for the occurrence and frequency of CWG,and high priority should be given to prevent convulsions in young infants with NV infection.Hyponatremia and lower Vesikari scores are risk factors for the occurrence of CWG.
