Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between serum quinone oxidoreductase 1(NQO1)and advanced oxidation protein products(AOPP)levels and intestinal flora and the severity of intestinal symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome(IBS).Methods A total of 135 IBS patients admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University Yulin Hospital from January 2021 to December 2023 were selected as the IBS group.According to the IBS Symptom Severity Scale(IBS-SSS),they were divided into mild-to-moderate(n=107)and severe(n=28)groups.Another 135 healthy individuals were selected as the control group.Serum NQO1 and AOPP levels were measured, and intestinal bifidobacterium, lactobacillus, enterobacter, and enterococcus levels were analyzed.Pearson correlation analysis explored the relationship between serum NQO1,AOPP levels, and intestinal flora in IBS patients.Logistic regression analysis identified factors influencing IBS symptom severity. Results Serum NQO1 in the IBS group was lower, and AOPP was higher compared with the control group(P<0.05).Bifidobacterium and lactobacillus levels were lower, while enterobacter and enterococcus levels were higher in IBS patients(P<0.05).Serum NQO1 was positively correlated with bifidobacterium and lactobacillus but negatively correlated with enterobacter and enterococcus(P<0.05).Serum AOPP showed the opposite correlation(P<0.05).In the severe group, serum NQO1 was lower, and AOPP was higher compared to the mild-to-moderate group(P<0.05).Patients in the severe group more frequently had daily sleep<7 hours,exercise<1.5 hours, gastrointestinal infections,or depression(P<0.05).Serum NQO1≤2.06μg/L(OR=4.604,95%CI:2.314-9.161)and serum AOPP≥74.42μg/L(OR=3.274,95%CI:1.698-6.313)were independent risk factors. Conclusion Serum NQO1 reduction and AOPP elevation are associated with IBS intestinal flora and symptom severity.
