Abstract:Objective To investigate the changes in visual function and corneal astigmatism after phacoemulsification surgery and small incision non-phacoemulsification surgery for treating hard nuclear cataracts. Methods From March 2021 to March 2024,160 patients with hard nuclear cataracts treated in the Department of Ophthalmology,The Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, were enrolled.Patients were randomly assigned into an experimental group(n=80,treat-ed with small incision non-phacoemulsification)and a control group(n=80,treated with phacoemulsification).Postoperative visual recovery, subjective perception of visual quality, corneal astigmatism, treatment efficacy, and incidence of postoperative adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results Preoperative visual acuity did not differ significantly between the two groups(P>0.05).On postoperative day 1,visual acuity in the experimental group improved significantly com-pared to preoperative levels(P<0.05).Corneal astigmatism showed no significant differences between the groups preoperatively or one month postoperatively(P>0.05),but the experimental group had significantly lower corneal astigmatism on postoperative days 1 and 7 compared to the control group(P<0.05).Overall efficacy rates were 98.75%and 97.5%for the experimental and control groups, respectively, with no significant differ-ence(P>0.05).However,the incidence of complications differed significantly, being 1.25%in the experimen-tal group and 11.25%in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Phacoemulsification and small incision non-phacoemulsification surgeries show comparable overall efficacy in treating hard nuclear cataracts.Small incision non-phacoemulsification surgery demonstrates superior short-term improvements in visual acuity and corneal astigmatism, with fewer complications, making it a valuable option for clinical application.
