Abstract:Objective To investigate the incidence and risk factors of disuse osteoporosis (DOP) after internal fix-ation for elderly hip fractures, and to provide evidence for clinical prevention and treatment. Methods A total of 175 el-derly patients with hip fractures who underwent internal fixation surgery at the Affiliated Hospital of Yan'an University from January 2022 to October 2023 were included in the study. They were divided into the DOP group and the non-DOP group according to the occurrence of DOP at a half-year follow-up. The DOP occurrence status and risk factors were analyzed. Results Among the 175 patients,54 cases (30.9%) had DOP in the first half-year after internal fixation. The results showed that age (OR=1.745,P<0.001),gender (OR=2.649,P=0.016),and postoperative complications (OR=2.724,P<0.001) were independent factors for postoperative DOP in elderly patients with internal fixation of hip fractures. Early resistance training was a protective factor (OR=0.416,P=0.019). Conclusions Advanced age, female gender, and postoperative complications were the risk factors for DOP after internal fixation, while early resistance training was a protective factor.
