Abstract:Objective To explore the re-mineralization effect on enamel surface after being irradiated by different power of the erbium, chromium:yttium-scandium-gallium-garnet ( Er, Cr:YSGG) laser. Methods Sixty-six intact, non-carious first premolars extracted for orthodontic rea-sons were used in this experiment. Each tooth crown was sectioned into buccal and lingual sides after removing the root, then we got 132 samples which were divided into 6 groups according to the irradia-tion power of Er, Cr:YSGG laser: the control group, 0. 5 W group, 0. 75 W group, 1 W group, 1. 5 W group, 2 W group. After being irradiated by different power of Er, Cr:YSGG Laser, the bu-ccal samples were stored in normal saline solution and the lingual sides were soaked in saliva for 2 weeks. The enamel microscopic structure was imaged and analyzed by scanning electron microscope ( SEM) and the microhardness was measured by microhardness tester. Results SEM observation confirmed that all the experimental groups appeared to re-mineralization phenomenon, especially the 1 W group which produced the best re-mineralization effect. The microhardness analysis showed that the microhardness values were significant changed after re-mineralization for all the experimental groups ( P<0. 05) , especially the 1 W group which showed the most significant increase. Conclu-sion By being soaked in normal saline solution for 2 weeks, all the enamel samples which had been irradiated by different power of the Er, Cr:YSGG laser appeared to re-mineralization phenome-non,especially the 1 W group which produced the best re-mineralization effect.
