Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens ( IOL) implantation for patients with cataract and lamellar macular hole ( LMH ) . Methods From January 2012 to March 2015, 15 cases (16 eyes) were analyzed for patients with phacoemulsi-fication and IOL implantation combined with LMH diagnosed in Navy General Hospital. Best correc-ted visual acuity, foveal retinal thickness and maximum diameter of LMH were observed 3 months after surgery. Results Best corrected visual acuity improved significantly 3 months after surgery, and the difference was statistically significant ( t=6. 833, P<0. 001) . Foveal retinal thickness ( t=1. 464, P>0. 05) and maximum diameter of LMH ( t=1. 307, P>0. 05) were not changed signifi-cantly. Conclusion Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation in posterior chamber can improve vi-sions of patients with both cataract and LMH but has no effect on LMH in the short term.
