Abstract:Objective To evaluate the value of Flotrac/Vigileo monitoring system guided goal-directed fluid therapy ( GDFT ) in patients over 80 years of age undergoing artificial femoral head replacement. Methods Sixty patients aged over 80 undergoing artificial femoral head replace-ment were randomly divided into two groups:Goal-directed fluid therapy group ( Group G) and tradi-tional fluid therapy group ( Group C) . Group G received goal-directed fluid therapy based on mean arterial pressure, cardiac index, stroke volume index and stroke volume variation, whereas group C received traditional fluid therapy based on central venous pressure, mean arterial pressure and urina-ry output. The hemoglobin, crystalloid requirements, colloid requirements, banked blood require-ments,total fluid volume infused, urinary output, bleeding volume, vasoactive drugs and hemody-namics during the operation were recorded. Results The colloid volume, total fluid volume in-fused, and urinary out put during the operation were significantly higher in group G compared with group C ( P<0. 05) , while banked blood requirements in group G was lower than that in group C ( P<0. 05) . Conclusion Flotrac/Vigileo guided goal-directed fluid therapy improves hemodynamic status in patients aged over 80 years of age undergoing artificial femoral head replacement.
