Abstract:Objective To develop a reliable and valid instrument to assess suboptimal health status ( SHS) in officer, we compiled a questionnaire with the characteristics of the army .Methods Focus group discussions , several rounds of Delphi expert consultation and a literature review provided the basis for the development of the questionnaire .Questionnaire validity and reliability were evalua-ted in a small pilot study and in a larger crosssectional study of 738 individuals.Analyses included tests for reliability and internal consistency , exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis , and tests for discriminative ability and convergent validity .Results The final questionnaire included 50 items on SHS in officer , and encompassed 4 subscales:the body condition , the energy situation , the emo-tions and mental status , the ability of communication and coordination .Cronbach ’s αof item-sub-scale were high ( range 0.71 to 0.87 ) .Split-half coefficient and stability coefficient range from 0.67 to 0.75 .Through factor analysis , there were 6 factors with the eigenvalue above 1, and the cu-mulative contribution rate was 87.118%.Conclusion The scale is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring SHS in officer .
