Abstract:Objective To explore the incidence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome ( OSAS) combined with chronic heart failure ( CHF) in elderly patients and discuss relations between OSAS and CHF.Methods One thousand six hundred and fifty-eight cadres aged over 60 years were screened.Polysomnography (PSG) results were collected.Clinical data and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) level were analyzed. Results OSAS incidence was 32.1%(531 cases) in all retired ca-dres.CHF incidence was 6.76%( 112 cases) .CHF incidence in normal, slight OSAS, mild OSAS and severe OSAS group was 5.4%, 6.1%, 10.0%and 17.5%respectively ( P<0.05) .The lowest oxygen saturation were significantly associated with the occurrence of CHF ( P<0.05) , and apnea-hypopnea index and blood BNP levels were positively correlated ( P<0.05) .Conclusion The inci-dence of OSAS in elderly people aged over 60 were high. The incidence of CHF significantly in-creased in patients with OSAS, with an increasing trend related to severity of OSAS.Logistic regre-ssion analysis showed that OSAS was an independent risk factor for CHF.
