Etiological analysis of 145 cases of syncope

Abstract:Objective To analyze the causes of syncope as a chief complaint in patients in de ̄partment of neurology and to reduce the misdiagnosis rate. Methods One hundred and forty ̄five pa ̄tients with complaint of syncope in department of neurology were followed up. Patients history,symp ̄toms,physical examination and related auxiliary examinations were obtained to discuss the causes of syncope . Results The main etiology for these 145 patients were reflex syncope ( 55%),postural hypo ̄tension(6%),cardiogenic syncope (18%),and other causes of syncope(21%). Reflex syncope is the most common cause of syncope. Cardiac syncope in patients aged over 70 yrs is significantly increased than patients under the age of 70 yrs ( P<0?05 ) . Conclusion Reflex syncope is the most common cause of syncope which is for physicians to raise awareness. Diagnosis need to be made by major clinical symptoms and signs,detailed history and associated with tilt test,holter and the exercise test.
