An etiological analysis of the dizziness in 348 outpatients in the medical service for the four South Pacific Countries

Abstract:Objective To analyze the causes of the dizziness of the outpatients in "Peace Ark"hospital ship offering medical service for the four South Pacific Countries ,so as to help to im-prove the diagnosis efficiency and reduce the misdiagnosis rate in these countries .Methods Three hundred and forty-eight cases of dizziness in the four countries were collected and the etiological analysis was stratified by sex .Results ①The four top diagnosis for these 348 patients were hyper-tension (131 cases, accounted for 37.6%), neurosis (61 cases, for 17.5%), benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV 55 cases, for 15.8%), and migraine-associated vertigo (35 cases,for 10.1%) .②Stratified by sex , the constituent ratios of some causes of dizziness had significant statis-tic difference .the migraine-associated vertigo and neurosis were more common in female than in male, in contrast, hypertension was more common in male than in female (P<0.05).Conclusion①Hypertension, Neurosis, BPPV, and migraine may be the most important causes of the dizziness in the outpatients of the four countries .②The constituent ratios of hypertension , migraine-associated vertigo, and neurosis may show significant sex differences , and the former one is more commonly seen in male than in female , but the two latter ones are more common in female than in male .③ Given the different food and aesthetical culture , the constituent of the causes of dizziness in the out-patients of the above four South Pacific Countries may be different from China , and the first screen of hypertension for the patients with dizziness may be most important .
