Abstract:Objective A dental plaque microcosm biofilm model with human saliva as inocu -lum was used to investigate the influence of 7-day biofilm degradation on the surface of resin compo -site containing dimethylaminododecyl methacrylate (DMADDM).Methods DMADDM was incor-porated into resin composite and the dental plaque microcosm biofilm model was used to evaluate biofilm colony-forming unit (CFU) counts, live/dead staining assay and surface roughness test .Re-sults Incorporating DMADDM significantly reduced the CFU (P<0.01).All three CFU counts in experimental group were 3 orders of magnitude lower than those in control group .7-day biofilm deg-radation had much less influence on the surface roughness of resin composite containing DMADDM . Conclusion Resin composite containing DMADDM has strong antibacterial potency and could resist the oral environment degradation .The novel composite may have wide applicability in clinic .
