Abstract:To accurately understand the species and distribution of vectors, which is of great significance for surveillance, epidemiological investigations, and prevention and control of infectious diseases.Traditional morphological identification mainly relies on the external morphology of vectors, which is not only influenced by genetic factors, but also closely related to organ morphology, developmental stage, external environment, genetic distance, and many other factors, requiring a high level of identification skills from technical personnel. In addition, the traditional morphological identification methods are easily affected by the limited factors such as the subjective consciousness of classification experts and the preservation status of specimens. Moreover, the morphological classification of some vectors itself has a great academic controversy, which seriously affects the outbreak traceability of vector diseases and the formulation of prevention and control strategies. With the development of molecular biology techniques,DNA barcoding technology has gradually become a powerful tool to identify and discover species. It conducts rapid species-level identification of organisms through sequencing and analysis of target gene DNA fragments based on genetic distance.Due to its characteristics of high efficiency, accuracy and economy, and not being limited by objective factors such as individual development, sample morphology and specimen preservation status,it has been widely applied in biological classification and identification, effectively making up for the deficiencies of morphological identification. This paper summarizes the research progress and application status of DNA barcoding technology in vector identification, aiming to provide reference for the research in this field.
