The current status of rodent pest in agriculture and countermeasures for control in China

Abstract：Although overall rodent infestation in agricultural area of China is gradually declining,it can still cause serious damage.In particular,invasive rodent species,some ecological projects,large area planting of vegetable and Chinese herbal,and flourishing aquaculture had resulted in a resurgence of rodent infestation in some areas.This paper reviews the current status of rodent pest in agriculture.The rodent damage in agricultural areas is expected to be effectively controlled by some strategies,such as the sound laws and regulations on rodent control,the improvement of monitoring system,the application of drug-free rodent control technology(trap-barried system),scientific and reasonable application of poison bait station,and popularization and application of various comprehensive management technologies of rodent control.Further research is still needed in areas such as the rodent monitoring,environmental safety of rodenticides,and sterilization of rodents.
