Survey on the capability of vector control agencies in different streets and towns in Guangzhou

Abstract:Objective To understand the vector control ability of different institutions of streets and towns,so as to provide reference for develop strategies to improve the vector control ability in Guangzhou.Methods In 2023,one-to-one questionnaire survey was conducted on the heads of vector control institutions of each streets or towns in Guangzhou.To investigate their basic situation,personnel composition,equipments and drugs reserve and management.Epidata 3.1 was used to enter the questionnaires and SPSS 21.0 software was used for statistical analysis.And to analyze the differences in the qualification,education,professional qualification,equipment and drug allocation of pest control operation(PCO)and disinfection management stations by Chi-square test.Results In Guangzhou,48.04%of vector control agencies were PCO and 51.96%were elimination stations.All vector control agencies were qualified as pest control service institutions,among which municipal qualification accounted for 83.80%(150/179)and national qualification accounted for 16.20%(29/179).The proportion of bachelor degree/college degree or above in PCO(30.62%)was higher than that in disinfection management stations(20.97%),and the difference was statistically significant(x2=22.917,P<0.001).The proportion of personnel with high vocational qualifications in PCO(47.29%)was higher than that in disinfection management stations(15.39%),and the difference was statistically significant(x2=221.672,P<0.001).Although the reserve rate of equipment and drugs in vector control agencies exceeded 95%,26.82%(48/179)of the equipment lacked maintenance records.Conclusion The vector control agencies of Guangzhou are fully equipped with equipments and drugs,and the quality of the personnel in the elimination station needs to be improved.
