Abstract:Objective To evaluate the control efficacy of 0.25%triptolide bait against rodents in farmland in Bolertala,Xinjiang, and to investigate bait consumption and safety for non-target species,so as to select new product for rodent control in farmland. Methods Field rodent control tests were carried out by bait feeding method, with 0.005%bromodiolone bait as control group. The rodent density was estimated by snap traps method. The reproductive status of female rodents and the number of subadults were measured. The palatability of rodent and the safety to non-target animals were observed. The normality of data were investigated by using Kolmogorov Smirnov test.Chi-square test was used to compare rodent species composition, capture rates and control efficacy. Results The corrected reduction of rodent densities of 0.25 mg/kg triptolide were 76.64%,71.85%,56.84%at 30,60 and 90 days, respectively. The corrected effect at 60 and 90 days were better than those of bromodiolone. The lasting effect could reach 90 days, and all with good safety. After using the 0.25 mg/kg triptolide, the number of subadults in rodent community reduced by 75.6%and 75.0%compared with the blank control group and bromodiolone bait control group, and the number of fetuses also reduced by 36.3%.Conclusion Therefore,0.25 mg/kg triptolide can control the fecundity of local rodent. And palatability is also good.In the farmlands of Bolertala,Xinjiang,it can be suggested to be extensively applied in the fields.
