Abstract:Objective To investigate the efficacy of broflanilide in controlling adult houseflies and provide guidance for its application in vector control. Methods The effectiveness of residual spraying, space spraying, and fly bait trapping methods were individually evaluated. Results In the residual spraying test, the mortality rate of adult flies was 15.00%and 16.67%after a 2 h contact with surfaces coated with 50 and 500 mg a.i./m2 respectively, and it reached 35.00%after a 1 h contact with surfaces coated with 5 000 mg a.i./m2.However,these rates did not meet national standard requirements. In the space spraying test,no knockdown adult flies were observed at a concentration of 10 mg a.i./m2,and only a minimal knockdown rate of adult flies(2.22%)was achieved at a concentration of 100 mg a.i./m2 after 1 h exposure time. The knockout rates for adult flies at concentrations of 1 000 mg a.i./m2 for durations of both 20 min and 1 h were 3.33%and 16.67%,respectively,which did not meet the requirements of national standards. In the bait test, after applying different concentrations for 24 h,the mortality rate reached up to 91.33%in the group treated with a concentration of 0.02%,and 100%in the groups treated with concentrations of 0.1%and 0.5%.Conclusion Broflanilide exhibits high gastric toxicity effects making it suitable for research and development purposes related to bait products. It will have a broad application prospect in public health pest control.
