Rodent surveillance in Changji State

Abstract:Objective To understand spatial distribution and population composition of rodents and their role in harboring ectoparasites in Changji State.Methods Rodent snap traps,wire mesh cages and burrowing technologies were utilized to capture rodents.Rodent species were morphologically identified based on reference analyses.Results Thirtyfive species were classified in 25 genera of 8 families and occurred in 2 cities and 5 Counties.All belonged to Western Desert and Tianshan Mountain fauna.Marmota baibacina was the main reservoir host of natural-focal plague and tick-borne encephalitis in Changji City,Manas County and Hutubi County.Conclusion This study described spatial distribution and population composition of rodents in Changji State,it will help manage natural foci of rodentrelated diseases in Changji State.
