Abstract:Objective To understand the population densities, distribution, seasonal fluctuation and resistance of Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus to three insecticides in Xianning City, and provide scientific evidence for mosquito control. Methods Lamp traps were used to monitor the population dynamics of Cx.pipiens quinquefasciatus and larvae impregnation method recommended by WHO was used to determine LC50 of the 4th larvae to deltamethrin,DDT and temephos. Results Cx.pipiens quinquefasciatus presented obvious seasonality. The peak density appeared between July and September. The average densities in barns monitored from 2013 to 2015 were significantly higher than any other habitats, which were 0.07,0.1 and 0.18 insects/(lamp·h) respectively. The LC50 values of deltamethrin,DDT and temephos to Cx.pipiens quinquefasciatas were 0.011 05,0.375 10 and 0.000 81 mg/L,and the resistance ratios were 11.050,31.260 and 1.353 respectively. Conclusion The critical period for mosquito control was between July and September and the larvae generated some resistance to deltamethrin and DDT in Xianning. So the management of mosquito breeding places should be promoted to delay the development of resistance.
