Endovascular treatment of bilateral vertebral artery dissection:a case report and literature review

Abstract:Objective To investigate the etiology,examination methods and related treatment of vertebral artery dissection(VAD).Methods The clinical manifestations,relevant examinations,treatment options and prognosis were analyzed of a patient in the Department of Neurology of the First People's Hospital of Nanyang City,Henan Province who developed acute nervous system dysfunction symptoms after receiving neck massage,and relevant literature was reviewed.Results After the patient developed symptoms,complete head and neck CTA,skull MRA and DSA confirmed that he had acute cerebral infarction caused by right vertebral artery dissection.He recovered well after receiving intravenous thrombolysis and bridging endovascular treatment.Conclusions Vertebral artery dissection is a common cause of acute ischemic stroke in young people and neck massage is one of the common inducements.Endovascular treatment can effectively improve the occluded blood vessels caused by VAD,resulting in a good prognosis.
