Abstract:Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, with acute ischemic stroke(AIS)being the most prevalent form.Astrocytes are the most abundant cell type in the adult central nervous system(CNS)and play a crucial role in maintaining the health and function of CNS.Following AIS,astrocytes are activated and polarized into neuroinflammation phenotype(A1)and neuroprotection phenotype(A2),participating in the inflammatory response and the neural recovery process.Investigating the bidirectional effect of astrocytes and their polarization holds significant importance for post-AIS functional recovery.Modulating astrocyte polarization can be a novel therapeutic strategy for AIS.This review outlines the interaction of astrocytes with other cells following AIS and elucidates various signaling pathways and molecules influencing astrocyte polarization, aiming to offer new strategies for AIS treatment.
