Abstract:Objective To describe the clinical characteristics of intraspinal cavernous malformations and discuss the impact of lesion location and its relationship with the spinal cord on surgical strategies and prognosis. Methods Eight patients with intraspinal cavernous malformations in our institutions were retrospectively analyzed, and their clinical features, imaging characteristics, treatment, and prognosis were investigated. Results One epidural, one extramedullary subdural and six intramedullary lesion were present in the eight individuals.Postoperatively, only one patient experienced paraplegia, and another one experienced a slight decrease in ipsilateral muscle strength but both recovered within several months. Conclusion The timing of surgery, approach, and manipulation are crucial in the microsurgical treatment of spinal cavernous malformations.Preoperative neurological function, lesion location, and hemorrhage significantly impact prognosis, with early surgery protecting neurological function and preventing rebleeding.
