Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between cerebellar metabolism and the level of consciousness in patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness(pDOC)and to demonstrate the characteristics of cerebellar-cerebral functional connectivity of pDOC.Methods Forty patients underwent a 3.0 T brain PET/MRI scan. The standardized uptake values(SUV)of nine cerebellar regions were extracted, and linear regression was used to analyze the relationship between SUV and the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised(CRS-R)scores.Based on functional MRI,time series were extracted to compare cerebellar-cerebral functional connectivity between patients and healthy controls. Results In pDOC patients,SUV in several cerebellar regions was positively correlated with CRS-R scores(P<0.05).Compared to healthy controls,pDOC patients showed reduced functional connectivity between the Cerebellum_7b region and default mode network,as well as executive control network(All P<0.05).Conclusions Cerebellar metabolic activity is related to the level of consciousness in pDOC patients. The reduced functional connectivity between the cerebellum and the default network as well as the executive control network may be associated with disorders of consciousness.
