Abstract:Meningiomas are primary tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) that predominantly affect elderly women. Recent research has highlighted the significant role of sex hormones and their receptors in the development of meningiomas, shedding light on their molecular mechanisms. Mifepristone,a well-known anti-progestogen drug,is utilized in gynecological practices to induce early pregnancy termination and has been shown to be effective in treating meningiomas. This drug is increasingly employed in clinical settings for meningioma management. This article reviews the mechanisms through which mifepristone, along with progesterone and its receptors, influences meningioma development. The goal is to explore new therapeutic prospects for mifepristone in meningioma treatment and to propose strategies for optimizing its clinical application.
