Abstract:Parkinson's disease(PD)is a severe progressive neurodegenerative disorder with both motor and non-motor symptoms.Deep brain stimulation(DBS)is a recognized and safe neurosurgical symptomatic therapy for patients with advanced disease whose symptoms cannot be adequately controlled by medical therapy or whose dopaminergic medications cause severe side effects such as dyskinesia.Advances in the field of DBS,including technology, mechanistic understanding and application, have the potential to expand access to,and the use of,DBS,as well as improving clinical outcomes. This review summarizes the latest research in the mechanisms, target selection, and progress in the treatment of DBS in recent years.
