Abstract:Objective The clinical characteristic and prognosis of atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) of central nervous system in children were studied. Methods A total of 15 cases of primary AT/RT of central nervous system in children admitted to our department in recent two years were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical data including the clinical characteristics, imaging findings, pathological characteristics, surgical treatment and prognosis were analyzed in details. Results Fifteen patients (13 intracranial and 2 intraspinal) received the surgical operation with 12 cases of total resection and 3 of subtotal resection. The diagnosis of AT/RT was proved by pathological findings.Fifteen patients were followed up.Except that one intraspinal patient who received chemical therapy after surgical total resection was still alive, the other 14 patients died at 1 to 9 months after operation. Conclusion AT/RT is rarely highly malignant tutors of CNS in children, whose diagnosis depends on the pathological findings.Total resection combined with radiochemotherapy is the main treatment, but the prognosis is poor.
