Diagnosis, therapy and therapeutic effect of pituitary metastasis

Abstract：Objective The diagnosis,therapy and prognosis of pituitary metastasis were summarized.Methods A total of 10 cases admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) from April 1997 to August 2014 were analyzed retrospectively.Results There were 7 males (70％) and 3 females (30％) with an average age of 60.4 years.The clinical features were visual disabilities (50％).The post-operative pathology reported that 1 case (10％) was metastasis of large cell lung carcinoma,2 cases (20％) were metastasis of small cell lung carcinoma,2 cases (20％) were metastasis of renal carcinoma,and 5 cases (50％) were metastasis of adenocarcinoma.All cases were thoroughly followed up except for 1 case,and the average survival time was 144 d.Conclusion Pituitary metastasis is a rare disease.The diagnosis of disease mainly depends on the clinical manifestation and radiology.The main therapy method was operation,radiotherapy,and chemotherapy.The prognosis of this disease is poor.
