The therapeutic effect of oblique lateral interbody fusion for lumbar degeneration disease

Abstract:Objective The clinical efficacy and complications of oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) for lumbar spinal degenerative disease were examined.Methods A total of 22 patients with lumbar degeneration disease underwent OLIF surgery were included from October 2016 to January 2017.The fusion segments,operation time,intraoperative blood loss and complications were reviewed.Visual analogue scale (VAS) score,Oswestry disability index (ODI) and Medical outcome study 36-item short-form health survey (SF-36) were evaluated before operation,1 w after operation,3 months after operation and in the last follow-up.Results VAS,ODI and SF-36 scores were significantly improved after surgery,compared to those before surgery (P<0.05).There was no spinal nerve,major vessel,peritoneal,or urinary injury.Only 1 patient showed symptoms from psoas invasion.Conclusion OLIF surgery produces good surgical results without any major complications.
