Abstract:Objective The relationship between the plasma homocysteine levels and the prognosis of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis were discussed. Methods The blood homocysteine (Hcy) data of 31 patients with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) and 30 cases of healthy controls were collected. These CVST patients were divided into high Hcy and normal Hcy group and the neural function defects were evaluated. The blood Hcy levels of different groups were compared, and the effect of Hcy on the prognosis of patients with CVST was analyzed. Results Hcy level in CVST group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and while the levels of folic acid and vitamin B12 were significantly lower than those of control group (P <0.01);compared with normal Hcy group, the prognosis of high Hcy group was poorer than that of the normal Hcy group (P < 0.05).Conclusion High homocysteine level is a risk factor for the cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. The patients with CVST complicated by high homocysteine levels have the poor prognosis.
