Abstract:Objective The effect of early life stress on hippocampal neurogenesis of male rats is discussed. Methods Rat pups were suffered from maternal deprivation (MD) for 3 h from postnatal day (PND) 2 to 14. Immunofluorescence for Ki67 was used to assess the proliferation, and doublecortin ( DCX) to assess the number of immature neurons. Results Rats from MD group had much more DCX+cells (P<0.001) but less Ki67+cells (P<0.05) than those from control group. Conclusion Maternal deprivation (3 h, from PND2 to PND14) alters hippocampus neurogenesis in male rats.
