Treatment of brain metastasis
Abstract：Objective To ascertain the best treatment modality for patients with brain metastasis. MethodsThe treatment methods and outcomes of 463 brain metastatic tumor cases in our hospital during a 10-year period from 1990 to 2000 were reviewed retrospectively. The treatment methods included neurosurgical craniotomy, whole brain radiotherapy, X-Knife radiosurgery, and X-Knife radiosurgery plus whole brain radiotherapy. The follow-up data were analyzed by using statistical method. Results The patients treated with X-Knife radiosurgery plus whole brain radiotherapy had the best survival. Conclusion X-Knife radiosurgery plus whole brain radiotherapy is the best modality for the treatment of brain metastasis.
