The effect of Bushen Huoxue Zhuanggu decoction on bone mineral density and bone metabolism in elderly patients with osteoporotic hip fracture after operation

Abstract：Objective To analyze the effects of Bushen Huoxue Zhuanggu decoction on bone metabolism and bone mineral density in elderly patients with osteoporotic hip fracture after operation.Methods The clinical data of 60 elderly patients with osteoporotic hip fractures who underwent surgery in Dongzhimen Hospital,Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from February 2021 to December 2024 were retrospectively analyzed.According to different treatment methods,they were divided into control group and observation group,with 30 cases in each group.The control group was treated with conventional western medicine,and the observation group was treated with Bushen Huoxue Zhuanggu decoction on the basis of the control group.Both groups were treated for 6 months.The efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine,bone mineral density,bone metabolism indexes before and after treatment,postoperative recovery and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group[96.7％(29/30)vs 73.3％(22/30)](P=0.030).After 6 months of treatment,the bone mineral densities of the two groups were higher than those before treatment,and the bone mineral densities of lumbar L2-L4,healthy femoral neck and Ward's triangle in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(all P＜0.05).Compared with before treatment,the indexes of bone metabolism in the two groups were decreased after 6 months of treatment,and the indexes of bone metabolism in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(all P＜0.05).The fracture healing time and hospitalization time of the observation group were shorter than those of the control group[(15.6±0.3)weeks vs(19.0±0.4)weeks,(41.3±6.2)d vs(48.1±6.0)d](all P＜0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the observation group and the control group[16.7％(5/30)vs 10.0％(3/30)](P=0.704).Conclusion Bushen Huoxue Zhuanggu decoction can improve bone metabolism,increase bone mineral density and promote postoperative rehabilitation in elderly patients with osteoporotic hip fracture.In terms of safety,there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups,but the observation group was slightly higher than the control group,which still needs to be further verified in a larger sample study.
