Research progress of microneedle drug delivery systems in local organ and tissue diseases therapy

Abstract：In recent years,microneedles have attracted much attention due to their small size(500 to 1 000 μm in length)and high surface area,which allow painless and effective drug delivery through the skin.In addition to the great success of microneedle-based transdermal drug delivery,an increasing number of studies have shown that the application of microneedles has expanded to various organ applications,including the delivery of alopecia,eye diseases,and oral mucosal treatments.This article discusses the current treatment of hair loss,eye diseases,oral diseases and cardiovascular diseases,and outlines the latest progress in the application of microneedle drug delivery system in these four non-skin organ and tissue diseases.At the same time,the development trend and challenges of microneedle drug delivery systems in the future are emphasized.
