Clinical study of levetiracetam tablets combined with vitamin B12 tablets in the treatment of childhood epilepsy

Abstract：Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of levetiracetam tablets combined with vitamin B12 tablets on childhood epilepsy.Methods A total of 88 children with epilepsy who were treated in 3201 Hospital from January 2020 to August 2022 were selected and divided into the control group(44 cases)and the observation group(44 cases)according to the random number table method.The control group was treated with levetiracetam tablets,and the observation group was treated with levetiracetam tablets combined with vitamin B12 tablets.After 6 months of treatment,the total effective rate,the frequency and duration of seizures,the levels of serum homocysteine(Hey),S-100β and neuron specific enolase(NSE)before and after treatment,and the adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group[90.9％(40/44)vs 75.0％(33/44)](P=0.047).Compared before treatment,the frequency and duration of seizures in the two groups after treatment were significantly reduced,and the frequency and duration of seizures in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(all P＜0.05).The levels of serum Hey in the two groups after treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment,while the levels of serum S-100β and NSE in the two groups after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment,and the levels of serum Hey,S-100β and NSE in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(all P＜0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P=0.437).Conclusion Levetiracetam tablets combined with vitamin B12 tablets is safe and effective in the treatment of childhood epilepsy,and can be used as an effective method for clinical treatment of children with epilepsy.
