Abstract:Objective To explore the effectiveness and safety of Lacrosse non-slip element (NSE) balloon in percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) for patients with moderate to severe coronary artery calcification. Methods Sixty patients with moderate to severe calcified coronary lesions who underwent PCI in Beijing Anzhen Hospital,Capital Medical University from January to June 2016 were enrolled. All patients had balloon angioplasty using Lacrosse NSE and drug-eluting stent implantation.Operation and stent records, intravascular ultrasound results, perioperative complications and major cardiovascular adverse events in 6 months after PCI were observed. Results Among the 60 patients,67 vessels and 72 locations of calcification were treated;72 stents were successfully implanted during PCI.After Lacrosse NSE balloon angioplasty, the immediate lumen access rate, stent expansion rate, percentage of satisfactory stent symmetry and incidence of vascular dissection were (146 ± 13) %,(93 ±6)%,90.3% (65/72) and 9.7% (7/72),respectively;no coronary artery perforation occurred.During 6-month follow-up,there were 2 patients (3.3%) having angina pectoris,3 patients (5.0%) having stent re-stenosis and 1 patient undergoing revascularization;no myocardial infarction or death was reported. Conclusion PCI with Lacrosse NSE balloon treating moderate to severe coronary artery calcification can effectively dilate stenosis and achieve ideal stent placement with good safety.
