Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between plasma pentraxins 3 (PTX3) level and carotid atherosclerotic plaque stability. Methods A total of 360 people who had physical examination in Harrison International Peace Hospital from January 2014 to December 2015 were enrolled.According to the results of carotid ultrasonography, the patients were divided into normal intima group, intimal thickening group, stable plaque group and unstable plaque group.Plasma level of PTX3 was detected by automatic enzyme labeling instrument.Relation between plasma PTX3 level and carotid atherosclerotic plaque stability was analyzed by logistic regression. Results There were significant differences of the proportion of hypertension history and the level of serum homocysteine among the four groups(P < 0.05).Levels of plasma PTX3 in normal intima group, intimal thickening group, stable plaque group and unstable plaque group were (925 ± 114),(1 025 ± 128),(1 136 ± 141) and (1 357 ± 158)ng/L and there were significant differences in paired comparisons(all P < 0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that plasma PTX3 level was a risk factor of the stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaques(odds ratio =0.008,95% confidence interval:0.000-0.171,P =0.002).Conclusion Plasma PTX3 level is a risk factor affecting the stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaque.
