Abstract:Objective To investigate the relation between periodontitis, blood glucose, blood lipid and aortic aneurysm. Methods From August 2011 to March 2012,94 patients with aortic aneurysm (observation group) and 78 patients who had oral health examination(control group) at Beijing Anzhen Hospital,Capital Medical University were enrolled.Incidence and severity of periodontitis, serum levels of fasting blood glucose (FPG),triglyceride, total cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C)were analyzed. Results Basic clinical information was similar between groups (P > 0.05).Incidence of periodontitis[83.0% (78/94) vs 42.3% (33/78)] (P <0.001) and the severity of disease(Z =7.502,P =0.024) in the observation group were higher/worse than those in the control group.FPG and LDL-C levels in the observation group were higher than those in the control group [(6.9 ± 1.2) mmol/L vs (6.1 ± 0.9) mmol/L,(3.1 ±0.6)mmol/L vs (2.6 ±0.6) mmol/L] (both P <0.001).FPG and LDL-C levels increased with the severity of periodontitis(P < 0.05).Pearson analysis showed that aortic aneurysm was positively correlated with periodontitis, periodontitis severity,FPG and LDL-C (r =0.715,P =0.001;r =0.622,P =0.002;r =0.497,P =0.018;r =0.488,P =0.020).Conclusion Aortic aneurysm is significantly related with periodontitis, blood glucose and blood lipid.
