Clinical features of stable plaques and unstable plaques of carotid artery stenosis

Abstract：Objective To compare the clinical features of carotid artery stenosis patients with stableplaques and unstable plaques indicated by magnetic resonance imaging.Method Totally 211 patients with carotid artery stenosis in Beijing Anzhen Hospital,Capital Medical University from May 2013 to October 2017 were analyzed.According to results of magnetic resonance imaging,the patients were divided into stable plaque group (n =69) and unstable plaque group(n =142).Clinical baseline data,symptoms and laboratory indicators were analyzed.Results Mean arterial pressure in stable plaque group was significantly lower than that in unstable plaque group [(90 ± 8) mmHg vs (95 ± 10) mmHg] (P ＜ 0.05).Ischemic stroke rate in stable plaque group was significantly lower than that in unstable plaque group[10.1％ (7/69) vs 25.4％ (36/142)] (P ＜ 0.05).Medical histories,clinical symptoms and laboratory indicators showed no significant differences between groups(P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion Carotid plaques in patients with high mean arterial pressure and ischemic stroke are unstable.
