Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of dl-3n-butyphthalide (NBP) on early neurological function in patients with middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO).Methods Sixty-nine patients with acute MCAO were enrolled from March 2015 to March 2017 in Affiliated Haikou Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine,Central South University;they were randomly divided into control group (35 cases) and NBP group (34 cases). Both groups had routine treatment for MCAO and the NBP group took NBP capsules 0.2 g/time,3 times/d for 14 d.Score of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) was recorded before and 14 d after treatment;cerebral collateral circulation was assessed by transcranial Doppler;the 14 d mortality was calculated;score of the modified Rankin Scale(mRS) was recorded after 90 d follow-up.Results Finally 30 cases in control group and 30 cases in NBP group were analyzed. The NIHSS score in NBP group 14 d after treatment was significantly lower than that before treatment and that in contro l group [(7.9 ± 1.3) points vs (11.5 ± 1.3),(9.6 ± 1.7)points];cerebral collateral circulation 14 d after treatment in NBP group significantly increased than that before treatment and that in control group (P < 0.05).The 14 d mortality rate had no significant difference between groups(P >0.05).The 90 d mRS score in NBP group was significantly lower than that in control group (P < 0.05).Conclusion Early administration of NBP can help improve neurological function in patients with acute MCAO.
