Caspofungin combined with low dose of sulfamethoxazole, sulfadiazine and trimethoprim tablets in treatment of pneumocystis pneumonia: one case report and pharmaceutical care practice

Abstract：Objective To explore the therapeutic value of caspofungin combined with low dose of sulfamethoxazole,sulfadiazine and trimethoprim tablets in treatment of pneumocystis pneumonia.Methods One case of pneumocystis pneumonia was treated in Hainan General Hospital based on cooperation of clinicians and pharmacists;optional pharmaceutical care was performed in this patient.Results Pharmacists recommended caspofungin combined with low dose of sulfamethoxazole/sulfadiazine/trimethoprim tablets as the optional treatment for pneumocystis pneumonia,which was adopted by the doctor.Pharmacists provided effective comprehensive interventions included anti-infection,immunoregulation,countermeasures for drug adverse reactions and pharmaceutical education.The patient was cured.Conclusion Caspofungin combined with low dose of sulfamethoxazole/sulfadiazine/ trimethoprim tablets may be a safe and effective choice for treatment of pneumocystis pneumonia.
