Abstract:Objective To analyze the relation among supplement of calcium agents and vitamin D,bone mineral density and bone turnover markers in elderly male. Methods Totally 475 elderly men (≥ 80 years old) from January 2014 to June 2016 in Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital were enrolled.According to the use of calcium agents, the patients were divided into calcium-taking group(77 cases) and non-calcium-taking group(398 cases).Bone mineral density and bone turnover markers (C-telopeptide of type Ⅰ collagen,N-terminal propeptide of type Ⅰ procollagen and N-terminal osteocalcin) were tested. The relation of calcium-taking with bone mineral density and bone turnover markers were analyzed. Results The normal bone mass rate in calcium-taking group was significantly higher than that in non-calcium-taking group [45.5% (35/77) vs 33.7% (134/398)] (P < 0.05).The level of C-telopeptide of type Ⅰ collagen in calcium-taking group was significantly lower than that in non-calcium-taking group [(0.28 ± 0.17) μg/L vs (0.34 ± 0.19) μg/L] (P < 0.05).Levels of N-terminal propeptide of type Ⅰ procollagen and N-terminal osteocalcin had no significant differences between groups (P > 0.05).Conclusion Supplement of calcium agents helps lower levels of bone turnover markers and increase the normal bone mass rate in elderly male.
