Abstract:Objective To compare GlideScope video laryngoscope and ordinary laryngoscope in emergency endotracheal intubation. Methods Twenty doctors had endotracheal intubation training in Beijing Anzhen Hospital,Capital Medical University from December 2014 to June 2015.The doctors were randomly divided into video laryngoscope group(GlideScope) and ordinary laryngoscope group(Macintosh). Each group had 30 cases of endotracheal intubation.Intubation time, the success rate of intubation, hemodynamic changes,post-intubation adverse reactions and complications were analyzed. Results Intubation time in video laryngoscope group was significantly shorter and the success rate of intubation was significantly higher than those in ordinary laryngoscope group [(21 ± 8) s vs (26 ± 8) s,90.0% (27/30) vs 76.7 % (23/30)] (P < 0.05).Heart rates and mean arterial pressures at intubation and 10 min after intubation in video laryngoscope group were significantly lower than those in ordinary laryngoscope group [heart rate:(90 ± 7) times/min vs (102 ± 7) times/min,(84 ± 6) times/min vs (91 ± 8) times/min;mean arterial pressure:(98 ± 7) mmHg vs (106 ± 5) mmHg,(91 ± 8) mmHg vs (98 ± 8) mmHg] (P < 0.05).The incidence of irritating cough and vomiting and the incidence of oral mucosa injury in video laryngoscope group were significantly lower than those in ordinary laryngoscope group [13.3% (4/30) vs 23.3 % (7/30),6.7% (2/30) vs 26.7 % (8/30)] (P < 0.05).Conclusion GlideScope video laryngoscope is more convenient and safer than ordinary laryngoscope;it has advantages of high success rate and few injury in emergency endotracheal intubation.
